Offered through UVI CELL, Coral Wings is a new initiative in the U.S. Virgin Islands that introduces, educates, and trains high school students. The project creates and delivers a curriculum to prepare students to become Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV/drone) operators and/or private pilots. The program will provide training infrastructure, facilities, developmental programs, and sustainability through cooperation with local, regional, and national aviation stakeholders.Coral Wings aims to promote workforce development of underserved populations, providing clear and achievable pathways to careers in aviation.
Admission Requirements
Admission is offered to high school students who have an interest in learning about aviation and acquiring certification. Students must be physically capable of participating in all activities. High standards of behavior and self-discipline are expected and students must abide by all program regulations.
Program Details
- Coral Wings Aviation is free for high school students.
- Two programs: UAV/ Drone Pilot and Private Pilot
- Private Pilot Program
Registration Open - Cohort 2
Students who will not be 17 years old by August 1, 2024 can participate in the pre-training and discovery flights but not in the final steps for certification. These students will be eligible to participate in phase 2 of the program and complete their training once they meet the age requirement to test.
UAV/Drone Program

Students in grades 9 and 10 can participate in the training. Students will need to wait until they turn 16 years old to test for their license. - All students must submit a registration form including a video submission.
- Coral Wings program will start in October 2023
- Instruction and activities will be afterschool and/or during the weekend. Program schedule will be available soon.
